With a logjam of teams jockeying for position on the leaderboard, Amherst’s Piet Hartman and Chase Lashway emerged victorious on Wednesday.

The sophomore duo fired a 3under-par round of 69, edging a trio of partnerships to capture the PVIAC Two-Ball Championship held at The Ranch Golf Club in Southwick.

Pietman and Lashway, who play in the Nos. 1 and 2 spots in the Amherst lineup during match play, recorded six birdies in an eventful round that also saw them post a double-bogey.

Northampton’s Evan Yurko and Galen Fowles tied for second place with two others teams – Doug Mulligan and Andrew Bonnayer of Ware, and Westfield’s Anthony Schabowski and Joey Caldarella – after all three pairs shot 2-under 70.

Palmer’s Ethan Beauchemin and Mike Bachand settled for fifth after an even-par 72.

Belchertown’s Riley Breen and Ryan O’Neil tied for 10th place with a 75, while Hampshire Regional’s Levi Zielinski and Owen Lech shot 81 to finish in a tie for 15th. South Hadley’s Ben Gardiner and Keegan Earle finished 18th on the day (82), while Hopkins Academy’s Connor Asselin and Christian Ciolkas tied for 20th (88).

The two-ball format involves teams of two golfers who play as partners, each playing his or her own golf ball throughout. Schools count the best of the two scores toward the team total.
