Caption:  Carl Teschke Jr. attempts an up-and-down on No. 5 during the Turkey Shoot on S, as he readies for his team the Belchertown Orioles to compete in the HS State Championship the following day (Oct 26th at Crumpin-Fox Club).

Larry Delue won the 2015 Turkey Shoot with a 76 Gross score (net 66), which was played Sunday October 25th.  Also winning turkey’s from Big Y were the three low Net scores:  Rich Fay (net 68), Pat Kelley (net 72) and Glenn Allan (net 74).

A 3-ball net tournament was also played, with the complete results below:

The teams of Jay & Jesse Morgan and Alistair Catto and Ed Garbacik tied for low gross of 70 in the Amherst 2-Ball Open. The 18-hole event was played on October 3rd and 4th, with conditions decidedly better on Sunday!  The money winners:

The Women’s Over 50 2015 tournament was held September 13th.  Michelle Morgan and Marie Appleby tied with a net 36 each.  A nine-hole play-off was subsequently held between Michelle and Marie, with Michelle taking first.  The top finishers for the event:

Marie Appleby – 2nd
Joyce Putnam – 3rd

2015-09-20 13.31.56After falling behind 16 to 11 on Saturday 9/19 at Hickory Ridge, Amherst came back strong on their home course to tie Hickory Ridge, with a  27 to 27 final score.  The match play event was played with both individual and best-ball play over the two days.  Three points were in play for each match, with one point for the front nine, one point for the back nine, and one point for overall.   Roger Frant lead the Amherst team in scoring taking 2.5 points in his individual match and 3 points in the best ball match with partner Sam Lussier.

2015 Amherst Golf Team shirt and the Amherst Cup

The Amherst Cup match play event features the Amherst Golf Club against the Hickory Ridge Golf Club, with play Saturday Sept. 19th at Hickory Ridge and finishing Sunday Sept 20th at the Amherst Golf Club.  The event consists of one round of team match play and a second round of individual match play.  The Amherst Cup was initiated in 2003 with the idea of promoting competition and fellowship between both clubs.  This will be the 13th match and Amherst has a 7 to 5 record against Hickory Ridge.

Amherst Golf Club will be represented by 2015 Club Champion Jim Hunt, Jesse Morgan IV, Dennis Yarrows, Jesse Morgan III, Gene Klos and Don Hodgkins (0 to 6 Hdcp group), and Sam Lussier, Roger Frant, Jeff Gold, Kris Carver, Brad Worthley and Blake Keedy (7 to 12 Hdcp group). Captain Emeritus is Bob Shumway and Honorary Captain is Jack Shea.

New member David Thibodeau of Belchertown, Massachusetts made a hole-in-one on the Par 3 4th on Saturday, September 11, 2015.  He was playing with Jim Levine and Ed Tivnan, who witnessed the feat.  David used a 7 iron to make the 135 yard ace, which is the 1st of his career.

This is the third ace made at the Amherst Golf Club this year, and he joins Jack Yanko and Jeff Gold in the 2015 hole-in-one club . . . congratulations David!

Amherst Golf Club’s first time hosting the local After 5 Event was an exciting one, with a storm cutting the outside activities short, and high winds carrying the Chamber’s pop-up tent a 100 yards downwind!
